About the Author
Matthew Curtis is 32 years old, based in the Milwaukee area, where he resides with his four-year-old dog, Rivers.
After earning his CPA license, Matthew spent over a decade working in public accounting. But over time, and especially after the passing of his grandparents, he found himself beginning to look inward, searching for a deeper sense of meaning in his life.
Grief was not something that came easily to Matthew. In trying to understand it, he began exploring new ways of expressing what he was feeling. Through journaling, dream-tracking, and making art, he slowly rediscovered a part of himself that had been there since childhood. His desire to create.
During that time, Matthew began writing simple, but thoughtful stories that felt honest to him, stories he imagined a younger version of himself might have understood and connected with.
What started as something deeply personal gradually became something Matthew wanted to share. He hopes these stories offer readers a sense of comfort and inspire thoughtful conversations.
Above all, Matthew hopes these stories give both children and adults a quiet space to reflect, to feel, and to explore their own sense of meaning, whatever that may look like.
What is 'The Kairos Moment'?
In Greek mythology, Kairos represents a different kind of time.
Not the measured, ticking kind, but the kind you feel.
A quiet moment. The right moment.
While creating these stories, Matthew often finds himself sitting with an idea for days, sometimes weeks, before something finally clicks, often in the stillness of the night, or just after a dream.
Over time, he began to notice that some moments in life feel like that too.
They don’t arrive on a schedule. But when they do, they ask to be noticed.
The Kairos Moment is simply an attempt to honor those moments, and to share stories that help us slow down enough to recognize them.
Why use Digital Art for the Stories?
Matthew has always found it very difficult to express himself through traditional forms of art like painting or drawing.
Over the past year, he rediscovered his childhood love of creating, this time using Digital/AI tools to help bring the images to life, while still shaping the feeling and emotion behind each piece.
For the books, this process has been slow and imperfect, but deeply meaningful. He hopes it encourages others who feel limited by traditional art to explore new ways of creating for themselves.
